WIEGEL Supports Solar Kiosk Project in Tanzania

Bodelshausen – WIEGEL is supporting a special international education and sustainability project: For a solar kiosk at Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, WIEGEL Bodelshausen carried out the hot-dip galvanizing of the steel structure, contributing to the project’s long-term durability.     

The project was initiated as part of the school partnership between the Vocational School of Tübingen and the VETA College Moshi in Tanzania. Together, pupils, students, and apprentices developed and built a solar kiosk that provides local people with access to electricity – for example, for charging mobile phones – while also serving as a meeting place for communication and exchange.

The first prototype of the solar kiosk was developed and manufactured in Germany. Students and teachers from both educational institutions worked closely together throughout the process. In addition to the technical aspects, the project mainly focuses on international cooperation and knowledge transfer.

The hot-dip galvanizing carried out by WIEGEL in Bodelshausen ensures that the steel structure is permanently protected against corrosion and can withstand the local climatic conditions over the long term. Especially in projects with a sustainability focus, the durability of the materials used plays a key role.

The project also offers significant added value for the participating apprentices. Working on the solar kiosk combines traditional training content from the metal construction trade with a real international sustainability project. Particularly dedicated participants are even given the opportunity to assist with the installation of the solar kiosks directly in Tanzania.

With this commitment, the WIEGEL Group is supporting not only a technical educational project, but also international exchange, sustainable energy supply, and hands-on vocational training.
