Unterwössen – The impressive installation of a new mobile mast by Telekommunikationsbau Services GmbH (TKS), a subsidiary of the WIEGEL Group, with air support is another example of innovative engineering and logistical precision – and has now been captured in a short film.
The helicopter installation of a new mobile mast, which TKS manufactured on behalf of DFMG (Deutsche Funkturm GmbH) for the mobile network of Deutsche Telekom at the company site in Dretzel, Saxony-Anhalt, took place on November 14, 2024, in Unterwössen, Bavaria, located at the northern edge of the Alps.
The new 40-meter-high mobile mast not only strengthens network coverage in the region but also demonstrates the exciting challenges involved in building such infrastructure projects. The use of the 3,200-horsepower helicopter was necessary because the difficult-to-reach location of the site made traditional crane installation methods impossible.
In the nearly two-minute film, the steps of transportation and assembly are visually presented – from lifting the up to 3.6-ton components to their precise placement on the designated foundation.
The new mobile mast is an important milestone in improving network coverage in the Alpine region and another example of the technical possibilities under challenging conditions.
