WIEGEL sets an example at the 1st Nuremberg Sustainability Day: focus on environmental and employee responsibility

Nuremberg – On September 11 and 12, 2024, numerous lighthouse companies from the Nuremberg metropolitan region and from all over Germany for environmental protection and sustainability gathered in the Franconian metropolis to present their concepts at the 1st Nuremberg Sustainability Day. The WIEGEL Group was also present.

In his presentation, Curd Blank, Environmental Protection Officer of the WIEGEL Group, shared exciting insights into the diverse environmental protection measures and successes in employee recruitment through integration that WIEGEL, as an EMAS-validated company, has been consistently implementing for years and thus plays a pioneering role in the steel finishing sector.

Drivers of the ecological turnaround

The enclosed pre-treatment and galvanizing plant are important factors in optimizing the ecological footprint. The enclosure allows the exhaust air to be completely filtered and the waste heat generated to be reused.

The lattice boom construction expert WIEGEL Parey is also taking efficient measures to revolutionize environmental protection in the steel processing industry: For example, recycled steel is being used as part of a pilot project with electricity grid operator TenneT, which saves up to 75 percent carbon dioxide per lattice tower.

Sustainable employee recruitment

Another key topic of Curd Blank’s presentation was “sustainable recruitment”. Here, too, it became clear what effective measures the WIEGEL Group uses to integrate and train its more than 1,500 employees from 43 nations at its 39 locations into an efficient and excellently trained team.

The 1st Nuremberg Sustainability Day thus provided an excellent platform for the exchange of ideas and best practices. “We are delighted to be a pioneer in driving forward the socio-ecological transition in Germany and making our contribution to a more sustainable future,” summarizes Curd Blank.
