Training of BRK Search and Rescue Dog Units on the WIEGEL Company Premises

Günzburg – On Saturday, 10 January 2026, the search and rescue dog units of BRK Günzburg and BRK Augsburg trained together for the first time on the premises of the WIEGEL Group. A total of ten area search dogs and their handlers took part in the exercise.

The spacious industrial site, featuring a variety of surfaces such as asphalt, paving and green areas as well as industrial installations, provided ideal conditions for realistic training. During the approximately four-hour training session, various search and deployment scenarios were successfully carried out.

The cooperation was initiated by Benjamin Pohl, Plant Manager at WIEGEL Günzburg, who is also actively involved on a voluntary basis as a district fire brigade officer in the Günzburg district. Regular training sessions of the search and rescue dog units on the company premises are planned for 2026.

At the Günzburg site, there has been a close and trusting cooperation with the fire brigade, the Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) and other emergency organizations for many years. This was demonstrated, among other things, during the floods in 2024, when the company premises were used as a staging area and as storage space for sandbag reserves.
