Along the 278-kilometer route between Berlin and Hamburg, Deutsche Bahn is preparing the next generation of railway communication: the Future Railway Mobile Communication System. Telekommunikationsbau Services GmbH – or TKS for short – is also involved as a nationwide general contractor for the implementation of mobile network infrastructure projects. Commissioned by Hörmann Kommunikation & Netze, TKS is making a crucial contribution to the realization of Deutsche Bahn’s “Expansion of Radio Infrastructure Berlin-Hamburg” project.

On November 14, 2024, the expansion of mobile network infrastructure in southern Bavaria reached another milestone: In Unterwössen, at the northern edge of the Alps, a 40-meter-high lattice mast for Deutsche Telekom was successfully installed. The mast was designed and manufactured by WIEGEL subsidiary Telekommunikationsbau Services GmbH (TKS).
On June 11, 2024, WIEGEL subsidiary TKS erected the new Fast Site radio tower for the first time along the A61 motorway in Alzey-Worms, Rhineland-Palatinate. Its unique feature: Unlike conventional radio towers, which require three weeks for installation, this tower can be fully assembled in just one working day. A tremendous time and cost advantage for mobile network providers.

Who provides the telecommunications services within the Group?
Telekommunikationsbau Services GmbH (TKS), a company of the WIEGEL Group, acts as a general contractor for mobile network sites and provides services to all mobile network operators in Germany.
Which services does TKS cover?
Planning, development, public-authority and permitting management, production, maintenance, network modernizations, refurbishments, remediation, and installation of telecommunications structures – through to commissioning and integration.
Which mast types does TKS install?
WIEGEL steel lattice masts, purchased lattice masts, and customer-owned masts – including civil engineering works (earthworks/foundation construction, groundwater lowering, excavation shoring, etc.).
Does TKS have environmental certifications?
Yes. TKS is certified according to EMAS.
Are there current references?
Examples include FRMCS infrastructure measures along the Berlin – Hamburg rail corridor for Deutsche Bahn, as well as a 40 m lattice mast in Unterwössen for Deutsche Telekom.
What is the “Fast Site” radio tower?
A tower concept that enables final assembly within one working day, offering time and cost advantages.
How is operational quality ensured?

Does TKS also support conversions/retrofits?
Yes. System technology installation, conversions, and retrofits are part of the scope of services.

From site planning and permitting coordination through complete construction execution incl. logistics to integration into the operator’s network.
Is collaboration with the lattice mast construction integrated?
Yes. If required, TKS draws on WIEGEL’s manufacturing expertise (e.g., WIEGEL Parey) and thus offers integrated solutions.
