Duplex protection for 1,500 apartments in Berlin: Felgenhauer relies on WIEGEL Zittau

Jasień (Poland) – around half an hour by car from the German-Polish border is the headquarters of the Felgenhauer Group. Now in its third generation of family ownership, the company specializes internationally in the manufacture of steel parts and welded structures.

For a major new-build project by Daiwa House in Berlin’s Lichtenberg district with around 1,500 apartments, Felgenhauer is supplying the balconies. Production was ramped up to 50 balconies per week in a very short time – a performance requirement in which, alongside consistently high quality, capacity and process reliability are crucial.

For reliable corrosion protection, Felgenhauer commissioned WIEGEL Zittau with the surface finishing. The balcony components undergo the complete duplex coating process there: from steel pre-treatment and hot-dip galvanizing through to powder coating – all at one site and in the client’s preferred color.

The combination of hot-dip galvanizing and powder coating ensures an especially long service life. Thanks to its long durability, the duplex process is also sustainable and environmentally friendly: less maintenance, less material use, and reliable long-term protection.

After finishing, the components are transported back to the Felgenhauer plant, fully assembled and, in coordination with Daiwa House, delivered just-in-time to the major construction site in Berlin along Landsberger Allee. Several hundred balconies have already been installed – visually high-quality, permanently protected and prepared for decades against weathering and corrosion.
